In memoriam Yanjun Sun

10 Mar 2026 10:00 | Katharina Rottenbacher (Administrator)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Yanjun Sun, founder and president of Star (Shanghai) Accounting & Consulting Co., Ltd., who passed away on 4 February 2026 as a result of a tragic car accident while on holiday in Turkey with his wife.

Yanjun Sun was the founder and driving force behind Star (Shanghai) Accounting & Consulting Co., Ltd., a firm he established in 2007 in Shanghai. Under his leadership, the company became a trusted partner for international businesses navigating the complex financial, regulatory, and compliance environment in China. With services ranging from corporate registration and tax compliance to accounting outsourcing and virtual CFO support, Star developed a strong reputation for professionalism, reliability, and international orientation.

Yanjun held a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Mathematics from Lancaster University in the United Kingdom and was a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society. In addition to leading his firm, he served as Director of the Expert Committee of the Shanghai Association of Accounting and Bookkeeping Service, contributing actively to the development and professional standards of the accounting profession in Shanghai. From 2019 onward, he also served as a People’s Congress Representative of Jing’an District in Shanghai.

In 2019, Star Accounting joined the international network of IECnet. Yanjun valued the exchange with colleagues around the world and believed strongly in international cooperation. As he once said: “Being part of IECnet means exchanging ideas, learning from fellow professionals, and growing together as an international community — all while staying grounded in our local strengths.”

Within IECnet, Yanjun was a valued colleague and a respected member of our international network. He believed deeply in the power of global cooperation between independent firms. His firm joined IECnet with the aim of strengthening international collaboration and supporting foreign businesses operating in China. Yanjun embodied this spirit through his openness, curiosity, and genuine interest in colleagues from around the world. In 2023, he became member of the IECne(x)t Working Group and has contributed many ideas and projects to the group. The IECnet members remember him not only as a highly competent professional but also as a warm and engaging personality who enjoyed sharing stories, ideas, laughter and the love for football!

Yanjun’s passing is a great loss for his family, for the Star team in Shanghai, and for the entire IECnet community. We extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones and to all colleagues who had the privilege of working with him.

He will be remembered for his entrepreneurial spirit, his commitment to professional excellence, and his belief in the value of international collaboration.

On behalf of the entire IECnet network, we honor Yanjun Sun's memory and the legacy he leaves behind. May he rest in peace.
